I often get asked about cost effective ways to freshen up a kitchen without breaking the bank. If you don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on new cabinetry, you can simply sand down old cabinets, prime and paint them (putting on new hardware is also, usually, recommended). Homeowners can have a kitchen feeling fresh, clean and new for a fraction of the cost.
We, at Sustainable Painters, suggest using a waterborne interior alkyd for painting cabinets. Waterborne alkyde has all the performance of the old oil based alkyde paints without the high VOCs and messy clean up! The waterborne alkyde has a smooth durable finish – perfect for the wear and tear of cabinet use. Also, for best results, a waterborne interior alkyd primer should be used prior to painting.
The cabinet doors can easily be removed and sprayed to create a blended finish, and the rest of the cabinets can be brushed and rolled with a whiz roller. Please see below…
